How Your Donations Help
Presenting Exciting New Programming
In April 2023, Avanti Chamber Singers will mount its most ambitious program yet: Considering Matthew Shepard.
This Grammy-nominated three-part oratorio composed by Craig Hella Johnson tells the story of Matthew Shepard, a gay man who was beaten to death in 1998. In light of recent events, such as the shooting in Colorado Springs, this work remains painfully relevant in its exploration of the life of the victim of a vicious hate crime.
This work calls for featured soloists and a small chamber orchestra which will greatly enhance the overall musical experience but will also be more costly than our usual programming. We will also be presenting the work in two concerts, rather than our usual single performance.
Your donations will be used to:
- Hire talented local instrumentalists and vocal soloists
- Professionally record the two live concerts
- Offset additional production expenses
Maintaining Our Incredible Artistic Team
Anyone that has attended an ACS concert knows how irreplaceable our Artistic Director & accompanist are.
Recently awarded St. Catharines’ 2022 Arts in Education award, Dr. Rachel Rensink-Hoff has pushed our choir to hone our musicality and present dynamic repertoire since she joined us in 2017. Likewise, our beloved accompanist Leslie Kingham has been with the choir since its first season and remains an invaluable asset in rehearsal and performance.
