Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, we sing with urgency a call to care for one another. Join us for this concert of nostalgia, lament, and hope. Hear settings of timeless texts including the Magnificat of Esenvalds and Durufle’s Ubi Caritas alongside other poignant reflections on love and justice by Caroline Shaw, Marques Garrett, Dale Trumbore, and Hussein Janmohamed. Also featured is the premiere of our title piece, “Memory’s Voices” by Nicholas Kelly, winner of the Ruth Watson Henderson Choral Composition Competition.

CONSIDERING MATTHEW SHEPARD
April 22 (7:30PM) & April 23 (3:00PM), 2023

“A powerful message of transformation and love.”

This is the story of Matthew Shepard, a young student who in 1998 was the victim of an anti-gay hate crime. Craig Hella Johnson’s oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard weaves together a wide variety of musical styles with narration to draw both singer and audience into the deep tragedy and profound hope of this passion story.
